Is that the same room, you say? Yes, I answer. The very same. We just did some minor modifications to it. The director said she needed a white room, so we gave her one. She helped build it though. Anyway, it turned out pretty awesome. People worked hard and we finished it on time. Got some really cool footage from it as well, as you can see from the teaser in one of the previous posts.
You might wonder how we did it all. Well, I'll tell you. Just find some old wood, get hold of some free paint, collect some favors from loyal friends and Bob's your uncle!
When you're making films there's always something really odd that needs to be done. This time we had to cut out about a million colorful paper flowers in order to get a scene just right. Yeah, I know... But who said paper-cutting couldn't be fun?
During pre-production, when things still seemed fun and innocent, there came a day when the difficulties of our carefully planned operation dawned on us. We had involved actors from every corner of Bergen, we needed enough equipment to fill a Boeing 747, and we were shooting on location. We needed a car!
We took a couple of phone calls and sendt some mails to different rental companies around Bergen, asking for a car with room for 9 and a huge trunk with that. We needed it for 5 days and we needed it for free. There is no need to say that our hopes weren't exactly high. But what do you know! A couple of days later I got a mail back from Oliver Roost at Frydenbø Bilutleie saying they would be delighted to help us out. Didn't see that one coming.
So, we had a car. Actors got picked up, equipment got transported to where it should be and I'm still attending anger management classes after 6 days of driving through Bergen's painfully constructed network of one way streets.
Deadline is looming menacingly in the horizon and we're starting to feel the pressure. There's still a lot to be done before our baby is ready for the big screen, but we're getting there. Here's a little teaser to sink your teeth into while you're waiting for the grand premiere. Keep in mind that this peak is taken straight out of the rough cut, so there will be changes in the finished short. Hope you like it.
"Spirer etter torden" is the title of a short film being produced at the University of Bergen this fall. This blog will be used to publish teasers and behind-the-scenes material from the film, as well as recruiting people that are interested in helping out with the production. Help is especially needed to find suitable cast, locations and props. We are also looking for voluntary production assistants. The finished short film will be published towards the end of December.
To escape from their parents neverending quarrel, Nina and her litte brother Jo create an imaginary world where model airplanes use flowers as amunition and broken kites are healed with magic dust. The childrens fairytale takes plase inside an architectual model, which their parents are constantly working on and regard as the ultimate future home. When the intrigues of real life still surpass the virtue of creativity, Nina finds it hard to protect her brother with the fragile shield that is their creativity.
